Car rides, Ruins, and Rains (Amy's visit days 1-5)

Finally! I decided to put blogging on hold until I was able to get my house a little more in order (especially, since with Lincoln's final tomorrow, break starts). There are so many pictures involved, I've decided to break this into multiple posts, lets see if I can condense it all down to 3:


Amy arrived Friday afternoon, thankfully, nothing went wrong with her flights, the weather obliged, and we had a nice first day together. Brought her back to our apartment, ate dinner, and just relaxed.





The very next morning we got up early to go on Ross' weekly free trip to Roseau (the capital of Dominica).  Sadie's rush of adrenaline for seeing Amy finally wore down about this time and she was pretty chill on the ride down.

On the way back, Sadie was still energized from the strawberry soda she had and was bouncing off the seat.

That night we took Amy down to the beach near our house that we like the best and spent the evening watching the sun go down and splashing in the warm Caribbean ocean.

Sunday was Amy's birthday! How wonderful that she came down to spend it with us? I attempted a coconut cake of sorts (probably won't attempt it again, never cooks all the way in the middle) and we spent a relaxing evening at home playing games after Sadie had gone to bed.

 

Monday, we decided to just kind of hang out around our place (decision was made for us by the amazingly neurotic tropical storm that decided to come in)  It cleared up Tuesday so we decided to venture out to Ft. Shirley, an old fort just outside of town and explore the ruins they have there (click on the pictures if you want to see a larger version, in an attempt to keep this post a reasonable length I'm making all of the pictures smaller).  The weather was gorgeous and we had some nice breezes while up at the fort so we stayed for quite a while exploring the area.

Despite the nice weather, we still arrived home hot and sticky.  We decided to jump in the pool to cool off.  Apparently, Mr. Mountain was feeling nice and wanted to help us cool off, he sent us a mini-storm to help. The little storm cloud did it's work just as we were exiting the pool to return home, because of the excellent quality of the rain, we became chilled and decided to wait out the cloud in the warm pool water.  Sadie was thrilled at being surrounded by water in the pool while having it drizzle down her face from the sky.  All in all, an eventful few days, but nothing compared to the bustle we would feel the remainder of the week.
